A chemical peel procedure involves applying a topical solution to the skin that causes the outermost layers to exfoliate, allowing newer, revitalized skin to emerge.  Different chemical agents can be blended together to create formulations of various strengths, ranging from low to high potency combinations.  Peeling agents include Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHAs) such as glycolic and lactic acid, Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) and Beta-Hydroxy-Acid (BHA) such as salicylic acid.  A proprietary blend of ingredients is used in the formulation of the ViPeel face and body.

What are the side effects?

  • Side effects will vary depending on the strength of the peel and depth of penetration.  A very mild, low potency chemical peel will often lead to slight tingling, pink discoloration and minimal flaking.  With a stronger peel it can be expected to experience:

    • During the procedure – stinging or warmth while the peel is applied

    • Immediately post-peel – redness, irritation and skin sensitivity

    • Days 1-7 following the peel – flaking, peeling, slight crusting
