What Is BBL?

BBL stands for BroadBand Light. The BBL Hero by Sciton, is the fastest, most powerful, advanced and versatile Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) system on the market. BBL treatment is a cutting-edge solution for addressing various skin concerns and enhancing the skin’s natural beauty. This revolutionary treatment harnesses the power of high-intensity pulses of visible light to target specific skin issues, providing remarkable results without the need for surgery or downtime.

How does IPL Work?

Light energy penetrates just below the skin surface, targeting either the melanin (brown spots) or blood vessels (redness and rosacea).  The body then naturally removes this damaged tissue producing clear, smoother and healthier appearing skin.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, also known as photofacial, is a non-invasive cosmetic skin treatment that uses high-intensity pulses of visible light to improve the color, texture, and overall appearance of the skin through a non-invasive procedure. BBL treatment will selectively destroy melanin (pigment) and hemoglobin (red blood cells) to produce clearer, more beautiful skin.  It can help reduce the visible damage caused by sun exposure, minimize or remove age spots, freckles, and unwanted hair, clear facial redness and rosacea, and improve the appearance of scars and vascular lesions, such as spider telangiectasias and broken facial veins.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN BBL TREATMENTS TREAT?

  • Sun Damage and Photoaging: BBL effectively targets pigmented cells, breaking them down and revealing a more even, clearer skin tone. It improves the appearance of sun-damaged skin, including brown spots, age spots, freckles, and uneven pigmentation caused by long-term sun exposure.
  • Rosacea and Facial Redness: BBL treatments reduce the redness and visible blood vessels associated with rosacea, a chronic skin condition characterized by facial flushing and persistent redness.
  • Vascular Lesions: BBL can effectively target and treat various vascular lesions, such as spider veins, broken capillaries, and cherry angiomas.
  • Acne and Acne Pigmentation: BBL therapy can be used to manage active acne and reduce the appearance of acne discoloration by targeting bacteria in the skin, reducing inflammation, and stimulating collagen production.
  • Uneven Skin Tone and Texture: BBL treatments can improve overall skin tone and texture by reducing pigmentation irregularities, fine lines, and mild wrinkles, resulting in a smoother and more even complexion.
  • Hair Removal: BBL can be used for long-term hair reduction by targeting the pigment in hair follicles, leading to their gradual destruction and inhibited regrowth.

It’s important to note that BBL treatments may not be suitable for everyone, and the effectiveness of the treatment can vary depending on individual factors such as skin type, condition severity, and response to treatment. Consulting with a dermatologist is crucial to assess your specific concerns, determine if BBL is appropriate for you, and develop a customized treatment plan.

What is the difference between BBL BroadBand light and IPL?

Both BBL (BroadBand Light) and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) utilize light technology for aesthetic purposes. However, BBL represents the next generation of this approach. Here’s a breakdown:

  • IPL: Often referred to as the original photofacial treatment, IPL delivers broad-spectrum light pulses. While effective for certain concerns like sun damage and rosacea, its targeting can be less precise.
  • BBL: Sciton’s BBL technology uses a more sophisticated filtered light source. This allows for a gentler, more targeted approach to various skin issues. Think of it like this: IPL is a shotgun, scattering light across a wide area, while BBL is a laser rifle, precisely targeting specific concerns.
